My book is valuable, and others should read it because it shows great responsibility, and it shows how hard people can work to make a dream that is "not so possible", possible. My book is about how the war was had an impact on todays society, and also what led up to the reasoning on why the American flag has as many stars as it does. The purpose of my book is to inform the reader on how people were being treated in the war. The book "The Flag With Fifty-Six Stars" ends with an amazing ending because it shows how and what the flag has become. In my book it says that the American flag was made by the Mauthausen Prisoners. The Mauthausen Prisoners are the people who have been beaten for trying to make the country better be standing up for what they believe is equal. The reason my book matters is, so that people can know exactly what some people had to go through to make our country a free country. One part of my book that made me think was when it says "They were crying as they unfurled it and gave it to Colonel Seibel. It was a big American flag, more than six feet long; Colonel Seibel took the flag, lifted it up, and kissed it." With that being said, it made me think about like what they have been through to make this country better, and free and for him to be crying shows that he knows that they have came a long way. When I read that part it made me think of what it was like to be there, finally being recognized for doing good and getting something out of it. I believe the most valuable lesson to get from my book is that "If you work hard and believe in yourself, than anything can happen." which is what they did, they believed that they could be better and be free and that is what they did.
My book is based on world war 2, and what tragic events happened then. It talks about what bad things that happened to people in world war 2 and also what things had an effect on the today's life of history. An quote from my book is "I couldn't believe it." said Mike jacobs. "Were we actually free?". Which i believe that means that once the war was over he couldn't believe that it was all over, that he never felt free that's why he had to ask " Were we actually free?", and that is sad because till today people are going through what happened in World War 2 which is basically just a lot of disagreements. My book takes place world wide because there wasn't a specific place where the war happened. the impact it had on the people of america was a negative affect, because the people that survived the war had to go and migrate to better place because it wasn't safe and they didn't know what else was coming.
What is happening in today society is basically similar to what happened back in the 19th century. When world war two was going on there were a lot of disagreements between the land size, trade, and also religions. Till this day there are arguments of religions, size, and trade in some countries. When world war 2 was happening the cause of that was because Britain and France called war on Germany after they invaded Portland in September of 1939. Germany experienced strong currents of an attack of lost territory. In my book it is talking about how in 1944 some of the allied troops began turning the tide against the Axis forces. So they were advanced toward Austria and Germany. In early 1938, Austrian Nazis conspired for the second time in four years to come after the Austrian government by force and unite their nation with Nazi Germany.
As a community we can do a lot to help, and everyone has their own little part in that. Our way of helping is to help children in hospitals, and seeing how we can make them feel less isolated, and more wanted. There are people who are battling a disease everyday and neither us, nor them may know it until it is more noticeable.Currently with hospitals they have a certain amount of children they can host for a certain amount of time. At most hospitals they don't have many books, board games, or activities. So while the people who come in to volunteer have fun with them for a while, when they eventually leave the children become lonely again. Then they must return back to their sad hospital rooms. With all of the sick children my group believes that every child and every adult should have a chance to feel like they are important and a priority. My group would like to have a book drive to help the children cope with being stuck in a boring hospital room with no form of entertainment. Sadly many are living in boredom due to no exposure to the outside world. We believe the books and games will give the kids something to keep them occupied, as well as serve as an escape from a lot of their pain. My group is interested in this topic because we feel that the children should not be isolated and treated different than someone without a disease. We also believe that people should care about this issue is because nobody should be mistreated because they have an illness. My group wants to make the kids at Wake Medical feel like they have a purpose.
Unfortunately, most hospitals don’t have libraries or any other ways to cure their patient’s boredom. When kids get very sick and end up in a hospital, at times that can result in boredom, loneliness, and feeling of isolation. There are also little global organizations to help solve this problem, and it is usually overlooked. Usually, this issue affects the children in the hospital because they are more prone to boredom. 82% of all hospital stays are children, yet people are not trying to make the children feel as comfortable as possible. In the United States there are approximately 7,000 different diseases and there are about 30 million people in the U.S dealing with one of these. This is about 1 out of 10 or 10% of the population that has to deal with one of the many diseases.
Only 900 hospitals have forms of entertainment for these children. This has only been an issue for a small amount of time, since large budget cuts have been made to medical institutions. Children are becoming isolated because their diseases are making them at times can prevent them from interaction of any sort, and most of them can’t go outside due to their illness. This makes the children upset, and can damage their health even further. Leaving this issue and not solving it can and will lead to unhappy children.
In North Carolina there is a lot that is being done to help create a less isolated environment for children in the hospitals. At wakeMed, there are a handful of programs that have already started resolving this issue. Not only can you make a donation, but you can volunteer, organize a fundraiser, or become a sponsor. All of this can really make a difference. The money they earn from the different events that are hosted usually goes to research. While the research is very important and helpful, we believe the children in the hospitals would also really enjoy some things to help entertain them and make their stay more enjoyable.
This is still a problem in our community because most of the money goes to funding research, this causes the hospitals to not have the funds to buy new books or games. As a group we believe that if the children had more entertaining items that the kids would feel less isolated. Also having these books, toys, or board games could easily make them feel more included, or active. Since most kids enjoy playing games, reading, and playing with toys having these books and games could really make the children in hospitals feel more connected. Especially if these kids played with these toys or read these books before being put in the hospitals.
Everyone can give a helping hand. Count yourself lucky that you’re not in this situation, but that doesn’t mean you should just blow it off. There are so many ways to do so! You could volunteer at hospitals with your friends, have fundraisers for children, donate, sponsor, and in our case, host a book drive. Soon, our group will be holding a book drive at WakeMed, for the children in the hospital, at the end of may. We will be collecting old/new books and board games to donate to WakeMed, so that the children there will get some exposure to new people, new friends and new ideas.
My groups plan about our topic..
My issue is about homeless people and how we can help them. They are affective to my community because it's seen in a everyday thing, now since the population of homeless people are rising we see more of them. I am personally interested in this topic because i once was in a situation similar to this. Also i don't like to see people struggle so it makes me upset to see homeless people. When i see them i think to myself how can i help?, what did they go through to get to this?, why isn't their family helping them? It doesn't affect me any but i believe it affects my community because some people are sad about the situation and they can't do anything about it. I think others should care about the situation because they should have some type of feelings about seeing people on the streets begging for money, because i surely do feel bad when i see people on the ground begging for money and food. I strongly think that my community can do something about this, maybe we can have a fundraiser for the homeless so they can eat and buy themselves a blanket. I know it's not much but atleast someone is doing something about the problem that the have. We can maybe give them advice about going to a shelter to get help.
my community issue is bullying. my issue relates to my community because if people or kids are getting bullied then that leads to killing themselves, which makes the people that were close to the person who killed themselves over being bullied makes them sad. i am personally interested in this topic because i once was bullied in elementary school. which made me, my friends, and my family members sad because nobody should get picked on because of the way they look, dress, smell, or act that isn't right because that is profiling. me and people in my community are being affected by this issue because when someone is being bullied and someone sees that happening it makes them frustrated because they don't know if they can do anything about it. which also means the victim could have had enough which means that they can kill themselves, and that leads to someone in that family being depressed because of something like that. others should care about this situation because nobody should ever get bullied because of where they come from or what they do. i believe that me and my community can help the people who are getting bullied in a positive way. we could maybe make posters that say "stop bullying now, we don't want to see them frown", and that we can go downtown to protest against teen, children, and adult bullying.
As part of todays blog post, i would say that the definition of personality means like how you act, or how people define you. I'm the type of person who is weird in a good way, also i am funny, and i like to have fun and joke around all the time, i also am the type who doesn't like to argue with others but if something comes up and i can't ignore it i will argue about it. Others say i am weird, and i make them laugh non stop, and also i am shy.
Some immigrants come to america for the opportunity and others such as the pilgrims in the 1600's come to search for freedom and some like the African Americans slaves came against their will. The first hardship they faced was coming across the ocean it could've been difficult and expensive and then it was their arrival sometimes older people didn't get treated as well. Then the work and education some were so horrible yet expensive living conditions and payed just a little to work or help kids learn . Some kids couldn't learn because the language barriers and their poor conditions. Their was also survival because some poor laws and codes made it harder for the immigrants and half of the people didnt or couldnt eat which also made it harder for them to survive because an empty stomach does you no good. they came to the United States because they were in search of new economic resources. Also because they had less supplies where they were before.
